WHO I WORK WITH
I work with women "of a certain age" who wish to lose weight while becoming healthier, more vibrant, and more energetic. They want to feel good inside and out, and are ready to make the lifestyle changes necessary to accomplish this. They want to end their struggle with food and weight, and realize that quick-fix diet and exercise programs will not accomplish this. They understand the need to address both the physical and emotional aspects of overeating. They are open to both conventional and alternative approaches that will help them achieve their goals.
Are some of these statements true for you?
- You've tried every diet around, from Atkins to Weight Watchers. Each time you begin a new diet program you are determined that this will be your last diet, that you will lose weight and keep it off. But the holidays roll around or you find yourself in a stressful situation, and you return to your old eating habits. You put the pounds back on, and then some
- You have joined and quit several health clubs and various exercise programs. You start off with a bang, working several hours a week, but stop due to exhaustion or injury. Or you work out steadily for a while but give up in frustration because you don't know what you are doing and/or don't get the results you're looking for.
- You eat when you're stressed out or upset. You find yourself reaching for sweets or salty snacks when you are anxious, frustrated, angry, or bored. Certain comfort foods, such as bread and sweets, make you feel calmer, more relaxed. You wish you had some other method for feeling better without eating.
- You struggle with food cravings. But no matter how much willpower you exert, sooner or later you feel overpowered by them and you indulge. This makes you feel weak, stupid, "bad", and downright terrible about yourself.
- You always want to eat, and you can't seem to stop. You try really, really hard to restrict the amount of food you eat. But eventually you give in and splurge.
- You don't like the way you look or feel. Your clothes don't fit well and you're tired of being tired. You want to wear smaller sized clothes that look good on you. You want more energy, more enthusiasm. You want to feel lighter both physically and emotionally.
You are likely to be successful with the TLC Weight Loss Program if you have the following characteritics:
- You understand that your weight loss problems will not be solved by engaging in another new diet or exercise program.
- You recognize that your overeating may have roots in deeper emotional issues and you are ready to explore and heal those issues.
- You are open to both conventional and alternative methods that aid healing and change.
- You know that weight loss requires lifestyle changes that take time, effort and focus, and realize that there are no quick fixes.
- You want more than a thinner body; you want to move into your later years feeling healthy, energetic, and optimistic.
